IOQA-Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Astronomy
Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Astronomy (IOQA)
The Indian Olympiad Qualifiers in Astronomy is one of the few exams at the school level that assesses students' intellectual and experiential learning of Physics (IOQA). As a result, studying for the exam becomes more difficult. Solving sample problems is one of the easiest yet most effective and efficient ways to improve your preparations and assess where you stand among your peers.
Instead of three phases, the national Olympiad programme in science disciplines will now be divided into two stages, with the international Olympiads taking place in 2021.
• In 2020-2021, the Indian Olympiad Qualifier (IOQ) will be the first stage.
• The Orientation and Selection Camp will be the next phase (OCSC).
Orientation-cum-Selection Camps Selections (OCSCs)
A total of 35 students will be chosen for OCSC in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and 50 students will be chosen for OCSC in Astronomy, unless otherwise stated before the IOQ tests.
If the final position in the respective IOQ Part II merit list is tied, all students with the same marks at the last position are qualified for the OCSC.
About IOQP
Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Astronomy(IOQA): 23 January 2022(Sunday), 9:00–12:30 hrs
Eligibility for IOQA and OCSC-Astronomy
● To inspire younger pupils to take part in the Astronomy Olympics. The following are the rules:
● The IOQA(PartI) student pool will be separated into two groups:
● As of November 30, 2020, students in Group A are in Class XII. And students in Group B are in Class XI or lower.
● A target number of 250 students will be chosen from each group for the IOQA (Part II) examination. As a result, a total of 500 students will be chosen.
● For each of these categories, the MI and MAS will be calculated separately.
● Each group will be subjected to all of the clauses governing eligibility for selection.
● The IOQA (Part I) and IOQA (Part II) question papers will be similar for both groups. There will be no additional criteria or provisions for IOQA evaluation.
HOMI BHABHA CENTRE for SCIENCE EDUCATION (HBCSE) Mumbai will host all of these IOQ (Part II). Students are picked for the next round based on their performance at these IOQ. These students in each subject attend a two-week Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) at the HOMI BHABHA CENTRE for SCIENCE EDUCATION (HBCSE) in Mumbai. The Indian squad for the International Olympiad is chosen from the OCSC in their respective subjects.
Question Pattern
The question paper will be available in both English and Hindi (option during enrolment)
A) There are 24 multiple-choice questions with only one correct answer. You will receive a three-point bonus for choosing the correct decision. A -1 point is deducted for each incorrect answer.
B) 8 multiple-choice questions with one or more correct answers. You must mark all of the correct alternatives and none of the incorrect ones to gain credit.

● popular books / listening to popular lectures etc.), is expected.
Preparation Tips For IOQA-
Be Clear On The Fundamentals-
You must have a firm grasp on the fundamentals. You should be able to solve advanced level questions with ease if you have a solid foundation.
Make an effort to go further into the concepts-
Even after revising, completing your curriculum would not result in good grades. As a result, you must dig deeper so that you can gain a larger perspective and handle any problem with ease.
Take Control of Your Time-
A student's grade can change by as little as one mark. Try to practise your questions in a specific time range while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Select Your Study Materials Carefully-
Choose study materials (online or offline) that have advanced problems to solve in order to familiarise yourself with the level of competition you will face.
Take Mock Exams
Practicing at home can be highly beneficial if done on a regular basis. Take mock examinations to acquire a sense of the exam's format, but don't forget to go over them again. Students frequently make the error of failing to review their mock tests. Analyze the questions you're having trouble answering and the areas you need to address. Focus on your areas of weakness.
High precision-
It won't help you much if you only practise the question. You must practise them in a specific time frame while maintaining a high level of accuracy. The more you practise, the less mistakes you'll make and the more accurate you'll be.
Best of luck to all of the candidates. Above all, have fun with the Olympiad because sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. For other such details check our website.
